About the role

Northwind Labs builds planning software that helps logistics teams move goods with fewer surprises. We are 180 people across San Francisco, New York, London, Berlin and Bengaluru, profitable, and growing about 60% a year.

The Routing Platform team owns the services that turn a customer's orders into optimised plans: the planner API, the constraint engine and the event pipeline behind them. We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of parts of that system.

How we work

Small squads of 4-5, written design docs, weekly releases and a strong on-call culture where the person who builds it also runs it.

What you will do

Design and ship backend services in Go and Python that serve 40M requests a day
Model and tune PostgreSQL schemas for high-write workloads
Run services on Kubernetes and own their reliability, SLOs and on-call
Review code, mentor engineers and write design docs that move the team forward
Partner with product and the data team to turn fuzzy problems into shippable increments

What you bring

5+ years building production backend systems
Strong Go or Python and a clear opinion on API design
Deep PostgreSQL experience (indexing, query plans, migrations at scale)
Hands-on with Kubernetes and a major cloud (AWS preferred)
You have run a service in production and been paged for it

Nice to have

Event streaming with Kafka
Redis, gRPC, Terraform
Experience with routing, scheduling or optimisation problems
